Supervisor Responsibilities

The term “supervisor” includes both military and civilian leaders. The overall supervisor responsibility in the program is to protect personnel and equipment through the creation of a safe and healthful workplace, as well as through safe mission accomplishment.

Supervisors should enforce OSHA and DA standards and regulations as minimum safety and health standards.

Supervisors must identify and control hazards. He or she should go beyond compliance to identify, assess, and controls hazards through the following methods:

  • Encourage personnel to report workplace hazards and take appropriate corrective action
  • Establish safety objectives in performance standards such as periodic safety surveys, safety training and meetings, and safe work practice development.
