Biosafety Signs and Labels |
|||
Labels are usually fluorescent orange or orange red with lettering or symbols
in a contrasting color. Red bags or containers may be substituted for labels. The entrance to a laboratory involved in the manipulation or storage of infectious materials, including blood and laboratory animals, is usually posted with a biohazard sign. This sign may include the universal biohazard symbol, the infectious agent in use, the criteria for entry, and one of four Biosafety Levels (BL1 - BL4). These biosafety levels describe the degree of containment or the combinations of standard and special practices, safety equipment, and facility design criteria appropriate for the operations performed and the infectious agents used within the lab. |
