General Biosafety Practices

  • Always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment to prevent contact with infectious materials.
  • Do not touch needles or sharp objects that may be contaminated, unless absolutely necessary; always place
    sharp objects in puncture-resistant containers.
  • In animal facilities, do not handle or touch the animals, and do not disturb cages and bedding unless you have been properly trained.
  • Do not enter restricted access laboratories, unless accompanied by a site representative. Ensure that all criteria for entry into such laboratories have been met (e.g., vaccinations, personal protective equipment).
  • Follow good personal hygiene procedures.
