Additional protective equipment may be necessary, as described below:
- Insulated gloves should be worn when working with very hot
or very cold materials
- Leather or utility gloves should be worn when handling rough
or sharp-edged objects or broken glassware
- An acid-resistant apron, gloves, and face shield may be
necessary for handling acids and other corrosive chemicals
- Face shields and eye protection should be worn if there is
the potential for chemical splashes
- Face shields, masks, and eye protection should be worn if
there is the potential for splashes or sprays of biohazardous materials or bloodborne
pathogens
- A respirator may be necessary in areas where biohazardous
aerosols are present or when airborne levels of chemicals are above permissible
exposure limits
- Disposable resuscitation masks or microshields should be
used during artificial respiration
- Hearing protection may be necessary in areas of high noise.
