Flammable Solids

A flammable solid is any metallic or non-metallic solid, excluding explosives, which can:
  • Be readily ignited
  • Cause fire from friction
  • Cause fire from heat retained from manufacturing or processing.

Many materials, such as metals have “fire-rated” hazardous properties and will burn under certain conditions. Some metals are highly combustible and others, such as a dust cloud will ignite only when in a finely divided form.

Spontaneously combustible and water-reactive materials are included in the Flammable Solids class.
