Explosives

An explosive is a substance that undergoes a very rapid chemical transformation producing large amounts of gases and heat.

The gases (e.g., nitrogen, oxygen, and steam) produced by explosives rapidly expand at velocities exceeding the speed of sound due to the heat produced. This creates both a shock wave and a noise hazard. Explosive hazards can be categorized as high (detonating) or low (deflagrating).
