INTRODUCTION TO OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH

.

Timeline

In the twentieth century, efforts in industrial hygiene matters were led by Dr. Alice Hamilton, a champion of the cause of social responsibility for workers' health and safety.

She observed industrial conditions first-hand and startled mine owners, factory managers, and state officials with evidence that there was a correlation between illness and exposure to toxins.

She also presented definitive proposals for elimination of unhealthy work conditions.
