Color Coding Example |
|||
The graphic below illustrates color coding on a distribution panelboard. The National Electric Code, Section 210-5 states: "The circuit grounded conductor of a branch circuit shall be identified by a continuous white or natural gray color. The equipment grounding conductor of a branch circuit shall be identified by a continuous green color or a continuous green color with one or more yellow stripes unless it is bare." Bare copper or aluminum wire is permitted for use as a grounding conductor. Distinct identification is important to maintain correct polarity between the ungrounded (hot) and grounded (neutral) conductor when plugs, receptacles, and connectors are used in an electrical branch circuit. |
