Types of Slings - Synthetic Web Slings

Each synthetic web sling shall be marked or coded to show the rated capacities for each type of hitch and the type of synthetic web material.

Synthetic web slings illustrated in Figure N-184-6 shall not be used with loads in excess of the rated capacities specified in Tables N-184-20 through N-184-22 of 29 CFR 1910.184. Slings not included in these tables shall be used only in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.

When using synthetic web slings, follow the precautions listed below.
  • Nylon web slings shall not be used where fumes, vapors, sprays, mists, or liquids of acids or phenolics are present.
  • Polyester and polypropylene web slings shall not be used where fumes, vapors, sprays, mists, or liquids of caustics are present.
  • Web slings with aluminum fittings shall not be used where fumes, vapors, sprays, mists, or liquids of caustics are present.

Synthetic web slings of polyester and nylon shall not be used at temperatures in excess of 180ºF. Polypropylene web slings shall not be used at temperatures in excess of 200ºF.
