Types of Slings - Natural and Synthetic Fiber Rope Slings |

Fiber rope slings made from conventional three strand construction fiber rope
shall not be used with loads in excess of the rated capacities prescribed in Tables
N-184-16 through N-184-19 of 29 CFR 1910.184. Fiber rope slings shall have a diameter of
curvature meeting at least the minimums specified in Figures N-184-4 and N-184-5 of 29 CFR
1910.184. Slings not included in these tables shall be used only in accordance with the
manufacturer's recommendations. Natural and synthetic fiber rope slings may be used in a temperature range from minus 20ºF to plus 180ºF without decreasing the working load limit, unless the sling is wet and frozen. For operations outside this temperature range and for wet frozen slings, the sling manufacturer's recommendations shall be followed. Spliced fiber rope slings shall not be used unless they have been spliced in accordance with minimum requirements of 29 CFR 1910.184 and with any additional recommendations of the manufacturer. |
