Finally, obey the following "nevers" when working with slings:
- Never allow more than one person to control a lift
- Never allow more than one person to give signals to a crane or hoist operator except to
warn of a hazardous situation
- Never raise the load more than necessary
- Never leave the load suspended in the air
- Never allow anyone to work under a suspended load
- Never allow anyone to ride on the hook or load
- Never shorten slings with knots or bolts or other makeshift devices
- Never allow sling legs to be kinked
- Never place hands or fingers between the sling and its load while the sling is tightened
around the load
- Never use shock loading
- Never pull a sling from under a load when the load is resting on the sling
- Never drag the load along the ground. This could damage the sling.
