Helicopters - Protective Measures

Certain protective measures are required for personnel working near helicopters. All personal protective equipment (complete eye protection and hard hats secured by chin straps) shall be provided by the employer and used by employees receiving the load.

Loose-fitting clothing that is likely to flap in rotor downwash, and thus be snagged on the hoist lines, may not be worn.

No employees shall be permitted to approach within 50 feet of the helicopter when the rotor blades are turning, unless their work duties require their presence in that area.

Finally, good housekeeping shall be maintained in all helicopter loading and unloading areas.
