Overhead and Gantry Cranes - Inspection

Prior to initial use, all new and altered cranes shall be inspected to ensure compliance with the provisions of this section.

All functional operating mechanisms, air and hydraulic systems, and other lifting equipment including hooks and chains shall be visually inspected daily. Chains, cables, ropes, rope slings, and hooks shall be visually inspected daily for deformation, cracks, excessive wear, twists, and stretching and replaced or repaired as necessary.

Once a month, a certification record shall be completed which includes the date of inspection, signature of the person who performed the inspection, and serial number or other identifier.

Complete inspection of the crane shall be performed at one month to 12 month intervals depending activity, severity of service, and environmental conditions. The inspection shall include deformed, cracked, corroded, worn or loose members or parts, and the brake system, limit indicators, power plant, and electrical apparatus.
