During the evaluation process, all sources of ignition should be identified. Adequate precautions shall be taken to prevent the ignition of flammable vapors. Click on the term below for a list of ignition sources.

Ignition Sources

Remember, control of ignition sources is the second line of defense. Many ignition sources will not be an issue if spills and leaks are prevented.

Finally, Class I liquids shall not be dispensed into containers unless the nozzle and container are electrically interconnected. This will prevent static electricity from providing a source of ignition.
