Asphyxiant

A chemical that either displaces oxygen in the air (a simple asphyxiant), or prevents bodily absorption of oxygen (a chemical asphyxiant), to cause suffocation (asphyxiation). Examples include carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and helium.
