Large quantity generators certify on the hazardous waste manifest that they have a program in place to reduce the volume and toxicity of wastes generated.

Small quantity generators (includes 100-1000 kg/mo generators) certify that they have made a good faith effort to minimize their waste generation.

On June 12,1989 (54 FR 25056), EPA issued Draft Guidance to Hazardous Waste Generators on the Elements of a Waste Minimization Program. Labs may find this document useful in developing and implementing a facility-specific waste minimization program.
