Classification
of Hazardous Waste - Hazardous Waste Lists
Non-Specific Sources: 10 Percent Threshold

In order for a waste to be an F-listed solvent
waste, it must contain at least one of the solvents named in the F-listing. For example,
for a waste to be F002, it must contain a solvent listed in the F002 description.
F002, F004, F005 contain a ten percent threshold which states that before use the material
must contain ~10% by volume of total listed solvent. (NOTE: Not all states adopted the 10%
threshold!)
Most solvents in labs are reagent grade and are >10% of solvent before use. Therefore,
if a listed reagent-grade solvent is used in an analytical method, any process waste
stream will most likely meet the F-listing for that solvent (except aqueous phase extracts
according to EPA's Office of Solid Waste). |
