The
F001-F005 listings cover only those solvents that are
used for their solvent properties (i.e., to solubilize
other chemical substances). The listings cover solvents used in degreasing, cleaning, as diluents, extractants and in reaction and synthesis media, but only when spent. A solvent is considered spent when it has been used and is no longer fit for use without being regenerated. F001 (degreasing solvents) will most likely not apply to laboratory operations. The scope of the spent solvent listings was clarified in the Federal Register on December 31,1985 (50 FR 53315).
