Notification of Discharge

The July 1990 revised rule also requires all industrial users to provide a one-time notification to EPA, State hazardous waste authorities, and POTWs of each listed and characteristic hazardous waste ("if otherwise disposed of") discharged to the sewer system ( 40 CFR §403.12 ). The notification was due to February 23, 1991. If you discharge less than 5 gallons of hazardous waste ("if otherwise disposed of"), you may be exempt from the notification requirement.

To provide this notification, you must estimate the type, volume and concentration of all hazardous wastes going down the drain. If your waste stream changes considerably, you should submit a revised notification.
