Temporary Storage for Disposal

Temporary Storage

The TSCA regulations set less stringent standards for areas that are used to temporarily store PCB waste for disposal
[ 40 CFR 761.65(c)(1) ].

Temporary storage, in the TSCA regulations, is storage for up to 30 days.

Containers in temporary storage for disposal must be marked with the date they were placed in temporary storage (usually the date accumulation begins).

PCB wastes stored temporarily for disposal must be placed in the DOT specification containers that meet the specifications listed in the TSCA regulation 40 CFR 761.65(c)(6).

No liquids exceeding 500 ppm PCBs may be placed in temporary storage - they must be directly placed in an area fulfilling the requirements of a storage for disposal area.

Liquids in temporary storage must bear a notation indicating that the liquids do not exceed 500 ppm.
