The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act) was designed
"to assure so far as possible every working man and woman in the Nation safe and
healthful working conditions and to preserve our human resources." Section 19 of the Act specifically charges the head of each federal agency with the responsibility to "establish and maintain an effective and comprehensive occupational safety and health program which is consistent with the standards" set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for private sector employees. |
